
Q: How frequently do you advise applying fertilizer?
A: Based on my experience, I recommend feeding container plants every four or five days. In the early season, alternate between a nitrogen fertilizer and one lower in nitrogen but higher in phosphorus and potassium to enhance blooms, unless you’re growing plants for their foliage.
Once plants enter flower-production mode around mid-July and reach the desired size, use only the flower booster. Avoid fertilizing when the soil is dry to prevent potential damage to some plants.
